Waterspout

Waterspout

Taken Thursday, December 28, a waterspout can be seen from the Sand Beach Road turnout looking South. Farrell Island, left, is shrowded in sea smoke as temperatures dip into negative numbers against 40 degree water. A waterspout forms when there is a dramatic difference between surface air and air in the upper atmosphere. When cold wind is added to the mix the rising air from the water can spin in rotation.
