The Island Community Center celebrates 10th anniversary

by Lyra Fuchs

The Island Community Center is celebrating its 10th anniversary August 25-27. In honor of the anniversary, the community center is hosting a series of events, beginning Saturday, August 25, with a barbecue from 2 to 5 p.m. at the community center. According to the ICC’s Facebook page, barbecue-goers can also expect a bounce house, magician and music by Archipelago.

However, the celebration doesn’t end with cake and hamburgers. Sunday brings a live auction and a silent auction, hosted in the community center’s gym. Items up for bid include jewelry, gift certificates and artwork, among others. The auction begins at 2 p.m.

The final event on Monday, August 27, will include more food and more music and end with a bang. Vendors will set up at the Stonington fish pier at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m., steel drum band Flash in the Pans will perform. Later, at 9 p.m., the festivities will continue with a fireworks show to end the weekend celebration. For more information, visit the Island Community Center’s website at islandcommunitycenter.net.
