Nomination papers available for Island municipal and school seats

by Faith DeAmbrose

Nomination papers for the island towns of Deer Isle and Stonington will be released on December 10, marking the official start to the annual town meeting process.

In Deer Isle papers are available for one three-year term on the board of selectmen. This seat is currently held by Neville Hardy. Papers are also available for one-year terms as tax collector, town clerk and road commissioner. These seats are held by Myra “Lorraine” Weed, Becky Knowlton and Paul Gray, respectively.

In Stonington papers are available for one three-year term on the board of selectmen. This seat is currently held by Donna Brewer.

Also available are two three-year “in district” seats on the Stonington Sanitary District and one three-year “at large” seat. These seats are currently held by Lisa Glover, Ben Jeffries and Heather Mathews, respectively.

Nomination papers are also being accepted for two three-year terms and one one-year term on the CSD School Committee board. The three-year seats come from the expiration of seats currently held by Mark Cormier and Vicki Zelnick, while the one-year term will fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Ginnie Olsen in June.

Papers for both municipal seats are due back at their respective town offices and the CSD papers are due back at the Union 76 office by January18 at 4 p.m.
