Island nomination papers close, no contested races on the ballot

by Faith DeAmbrose

The nomination period for municipal and school committee positions has closed in the towns of Deer Isle and Stonington. Unless someone mounts a write-in campaign, which can be initiated by any citizen at any time up until election day, there are no contested races.

In Deer Isle, incumbent Lewis Ellis will seek re-election to an open three-year seat as third selectman.

Incumbent Myra Weed will seek re-election to a one open one-year term as treasurer/tax collector.

Incumbent Becky Knowlton will seek re-election to a one-year term as town clerk.

Incumbent Paul Gray will seek re-election to a one-year term as road commissioner.

In Stonington, incumbent Evelyn Duncan and newcomer Robert Ray will seek two open three-year seats on the board of selectmen.

There are also three open seats on the town’s sanitary district board of trustees. Stephen York, Ronald M. Eaton and Frederick Whitford have returned papers for those seats.

Incumbent Ginny Olsen and Stephen York will seek election to two open three-year seats on the Consolidated School District board.
