Informational meeting to be held for Union 76 parents

by Jessica Brophy

Parents from Brooklin, Sedgwick and the Island are invited to an informational meeting on Wednesday, November 28, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Sedgwick Elementary.

The meeting will discuss the formation of a union-wide parent committee, to meet two or three times during the school year, to provide feedback between parents and the schools about Title I programs. These programs are funded by federal dollars and range from literacy efforts to summer programs and more.

“The goal is to get input and ideas from parents about what works for their children and what doesn’t,” said Josh Nichols, special education director. Nichols also oversees the disbursement of Title I funds.

Presentations on programs already in place at the schools will also keep parents informed on what’s happening in the schools. Nichols stressed that attending the meeting did not mean parents had to join the committee, and the first meeting is just for information.

Snacks and childcare will be provided. For information, call Nichols at 359-8400.
