The Rev. Amy Vaughn, former director of Healthy Peninsula, has been selected as the new pastor of the Deer Isle/Sunset Congregational Church.

Vaughn said she hopes to continue and expand the church’s “long history of engagement and service” in the community. She also hopes to help the congregation to continue to grow the number of families and children involved with the church.

Vaughn is ordained in the Presbyterian Church and has a master’s degree in divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. She served as the Associate Pastor for Christian Education and Youth at the First Presbyterian Church in Cranbury, New Jersey for three years and served as co-director of the Princeton Theological Seminary Institute for Youth Ministry for nine years.

For the past three years, Vaughn has served as the director of Healthy Peninsula, where she provided leadership for community initiatives such as Ready by 21, the Magic Food Bus and efforts to improve access to early childhood education.

“Healthy Peninsula has a great model,” said Vaughn. Vaughn plans to stay involved with Healthy Peninsula’s Ready by 21 program in a non-staff capacity as co-chairman of the steering committee.

Vaughn lives in Deer Isle with her husband, Andy, and their three children, Isaac, Orly and Avital.

“I feel so fortunate to be following Alice Hildebrand and Dana Douglass,” said Vaughn. Hildebrand served as the previous pastor, with Dana Douglass serving in the interim. “We have a very vibrant and diverse group of people and it’s exciting to be involved,” said Vaughn.
