EarthLoom weaving comes to Deer Isle
In July, Susan Barrett Merrill of Brooksville demonstrated weaving on an EarthLoom, a six-foot-tall standing loom. Merrill held the event on the grounds of the Hutton Gallery in Deer Isle; 15 people attended.
The weavings made on an EarthLoom, Merrill said in a press release, are intended to foster community. Multiple people can weave on the loom at one time, and the group created a weaving for owners of a nature store that had suffered water damage.
EarthLooms have been used in schools, hospitals, therapy, libraries, and spiritual retreats. The EarthLoom Foundation, started by Merrill and her husband Richard, supports their EarthLoom projects.
