Tightening bolts on tap for Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge

The nearly 75-year-old Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge will be the focus of a community meeting Tuesday, March 12, to inform area residents about additional work that will take place this summer.

According to MaineDOT Project Manager Stephen Bodge, “an in-depth inspection was completed recently that identified that some maintenance needs to be completed on the bridge. There are a number of bolts that need tightening, bolts that need replacement, steel members that need replacement and we wanted to get out and tell the people that we intend to perform this work this summer.”

Bodge said that while routine maintenance continues to be performed on the bridge, “much of the work remaining involves higher elevation work that will be completed by a hired contractor.”

Information listed on the MaineDOT website shows that the project is expected to go out to bid on April 17, at a cost between $521,000 and $669,000.

A public meeting notice from MaineDOT says “the department is particularly interested in learning local views relative to project consistency with local comprehensive plans, discovering local resources, and identifying local concerns and issues.”
