The holidays are the season for giving, and Vicki Siebert and her daughter Kim Yurchick want to make sure animals are remembered in the giving season.

For the past few weeks, the pair have been collecting donations of pet food, toys, blankets, and more for a bulk donation to the Bangor Humane Society. They call it the “Holidays Are for Animals Too Drive.”

“We’ve had a huge response from Island people,” said Siebert.

Siebert and Yurchick say the Humane Society’s “wish list” includes clay kitty litter (non-clumping), blankets, pet toys, Alpo or Pedigree canned dog food, 9 Lives or Friskies cat food, lightly used or new towels, and peanut butter.

Siebert, an employee at Billings Diesel and Marine, has set up a collection box at the shop store there. There is also a donation jar at Billings Diesel. Siebert said she and Yurchick, who lives in Sedgwick, are willing to pick up donations.

“A lot of people have already donated,” said Siebert. “Some people have brought in just a can or two of food; some people you’d never expect donated. I guess people just want to help animals.”

The drive will continue until Friday, December 13. For more information, call Vicki Siebert at 348-6657 or Kim Yurchick at 359-2792.
