DISHS School board allows student to walk with his classmates
At its October 1 meeting, the Deer Isle-Stonington school board unanimously approved a request from student Brandon Higgins of Brooklin to be allowed to walk with his classmates at graduation and participate in the ceremony.
Higgins, who will be three credits shy of what is needed to graduate in June 2014, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in January of 2011. Higgins and his family went before the board in an executive session to ask if he could participate in his class graduation in June, according to his mother Luanne Higgins after the executive session.
“Brandon wants to walk with his classmates,” said Higgins. Brandon will complete his degree requirements in fall and winter of 2014, when he will receive his diploma.
