Over 100 Islanders gathered on the Island high school front lawn Friday evening, April 18, to show support for Dr. Robin Huff who is battling cancer. She has worked at Island Family Medicine in Stonington for 15 years.

Organized, led and videotaped by Islander Amanda Larrabee, the event included a circle of people holding candles, signs and personal messages of support, and a prayer by Pastor Stephen York.

The event, York said, is a way for Dr. Huff to “feel the love this Island has for you.” He talked about the importance of positive thoughts, faith and “open love” in support of Dr. Huff.

In describing how the event came to happen, Larrabee said it seemed like everyone wanted to do something and help, so she jumped in, with help, to organize it. Dr. Huff delivered her daughter.

Dr. Huff, Larrabee said in an interview after the event, “has impacted so many people in the community in such a positive way.” So the event “can offer a little bit of what she has given.”

Yet again the turnout “makes you realize what a great community we have,” she concluded.

During the event, she stood on a ladder in the middle of the circle with her video camera panning people as they waved and shouted messages of support.

After the circle, she set up her camera on a tripod to record short messages of well wishes and support from individuals and small groups. The complete video will be given to Dr. Huff.
