Annual Penobscot Bay Press golf tournament set for August 31

The annual Penobscot Bay Press golf tournament will be held Sunday, August 31, at the Island Country Club in Sunset on Deer Isle. The format is 18 holes, individual player, and full handicap.

The field is open to male and female registrants who are amateur golfers and who, if under the age of 15, can demonstrate the ability to complete the par 68 course in fewer than 90 strokes by playing a qualifying round prior to the tournament.

Entrants belonging to the Maine State Golf Association must show their index numbers or be rated under the Calloway System.

Prizes will be awarded as follows: $100 low net for man/woman; $100 low gross for man/woman; $50 second place low net for man/woman; $50 second place low gross for man/woman; $25 from Billings Diesel and Marine plus two Stonington Opera House movie passes for the longest drive for man/woman; three pounds of lobster each for closest to the pin for man/woman (4th hole for men and 6th hole for women). Each finisher will receive a Penobscot Bay Press 2014 Tournament golf ball and T-shirt.

The final arbiter of all rules in the tournament is the Tournament Committee of the Island Country Club.

Fees are charged. Register online and reserve tee-times before Friday, August 29, at 4 p.m. Same-day registration at the country club is also allowed.
