Opera House Arts will present the internationally-acclaimed DaPonte String Quartet in a one-time only performance at the Stonington Opera House on Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14, at 7 p.m. The concert, Whirlwind Romance, will feature four popular and romantic pieces of classical music to tell a story of young love through the works of Hugo Wolf (Italian Serenade), Alexander Borodin (String Quartet No. 2 in D Major), Richard Wagner (Siegfried’s Idyll), and George Gershwin (Lullaby for Strings), OHA announced in a news release.
OHA will present the concert in collaboration with community partners, with Lily’s House offering a special, limited seating pre-concert dinner, complete with a musical introduction and Q&A with Pete Dane; and The Factory Tavern offering a discount to all concert ticket holders on their Valentine’s Day and regular menus. Lodging is also available for those wishing a romantic getaway weekend in Stonington. The special event is one in a four-part series, “Classical Music in Historic Sites,” for which the Quartet was awarded a grant from the Maine Arts Commission.
This concert is funded in part by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts. Advance tickets are recommended and can be purchased online at operahousearts.org. To make reservations for the pre-concert dinner at Lily’s House, call the Opera House box office at 367-2788.
