George Fields has joined the Blue Hill Heritage Trust staff as their first associate director, the trust announced in a news release. He will have primary responsibility for the management of the conservation lands that the trust owns and the conservation easements that it holds on privately owned lands. Adam Bishop, who previously managed the trust’s conservation lands, left his position last year to join the staff of the Maine Farmland Trust.

Fields was previously co-principal at Due North land surveying firm and since 2008 also served as the part-time stewardship director at Island Heritage Trust.

A professional geologist in Maine and New Hampshire, Fields earned degrees from Southern Illinois University and North Carolina State University. He has traveled within and outside the country conducting environmental and geophysical surveys for private and governmental agencies. Fields has been in the Blue Hill Peninsula area for 10 years and currently lives in Deer Isle with his wife, Pam.
