Deer Isle-Stonington baseball gets first win and softball gets three more

The girls softball team lost to Sumner 15-5. The bottom line is that we didn’t play well and committed 13 errors. Logan Eaton had 2 singles and an RBI, Katie Haskell and Abby Knowlton each had 2 singles, Holli Boyce had a double, and Morgan Shepard and Ashley Haskell each had a single.

We played much better to beat Bangor Christian 9-0. We committed no errors in this game with Abby Knowlton getting 13 strikeouts with 2 walks and 2 hits. Allyson Eaton led us at the plate with a triple and a double with 2 RBIs, Holli Boyce had 2 singles, Abby Knowlton and Katie Haskell each had a single with 2 RBIs, and Whitney Brown had an RBI single.

The girls won a hard fought double header against Schenck 11-8 and 14-10. In the first game, we scored early with 4 runs in the first inning. Morgan Shepard had a big day at the plate with 2 triples, a double, and a single for 6 RBIs, Katie Haskell had 3 singles with an RBI, Ashley Haskell and Logan Eaton each had 2 singles, and Holli Boyce had a single with 2 RBIs.

The girls started off slowly in the second game and we trailed 8-3 in the bottom of the fourth before scoring 5 runs to tie it up. We then scored 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Allyson Eaton had 3 singles with 3 RBIs, Ashley Haskell 2 singles with an RBI, and Logan Eaton and Morgan Shepard each had a single with an RBI.

The boys baseball team won their first game by beating Sumner 11-6. The score went back and forth until we took a 7-6 lead in the fifth and built on it from there. Lucas Oliver pitched the entire game with 10 strikeouts and giving up 6 runs, only 4 of which were earned.

Ethan Shepard had 3 hits with 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases, Stuart Bray and Jordin Eaton each had 2 hits with an RBI, Krisford Melanio and David McManus each had a hit with an RBI and a stolen base, and Lucas Oliver and Zack Ladd each had a hit.

The boys lost a one sided game against Bangor Christian 20-0. Krisford Melanio had 2 singles and Zach Ladd managed 2 walks to get on base.

The boys lost a double header with Schenck, losing the first game 14-0 in 5 innings and the second 6-1. In the first game, Lucas Oliver pitched, getting 6 strikeouts. Dave McManus had a double and Stuart Bray a single.

Jordin Eaton pitched the second game and kept Schenck a bit off balanced and the game was much closer. Pat Duddy scored our only run with a bunt single and 3 stolen bases.

The girls are 5-4 and have moved up into 10th place. We have an important double header with Katahdin this week and a double header with Jonesport Saturday.

The boys did get their first win. Unfortunately, we seemed to have lost our offense after that game and hopefully can find it and get some wins in the next week.

Both tennis teams in playoff picture with wins

The girls tennis team lost two matches to Sumner, 3-2 score. In the first game, in the singles, Allison Cormier won 8-6, Megan Weed lost 8-5 and we forfeited the third singles. In the doubles Justine Rhys/Jordyn Judkins lost 8-3 and Sumner forfeited the second doubles.

In the second game, in the singles, Allison Cormier won 8-6, Megan Weed lost 8-2, and Sasha Zembrusky lost 8-5. In the doubles, Justine Rhys/Jordyn Judkins lost 8-1 and Sumner forfeited the second doubles.

The girls beat Calais 5-0 and 4-0. In the first game, in the singles, Allison Cormier won 8-1, Sasha Zembrusky won 8-4, and Jordyn Judkins won 8-5. Calais forfeited both of the doubles matches.

In the second game, in the singles, Allison Cormier won 8-2, Sasha Zembrusky won 8-4, and the third singles was a double forfeit. In the doubles, Justine Rhys/Jordyn Judkins won 9-7 and Calais forfeited the other double match.

The boys tennis team beat Sumner 5-0 and 4-1. In the first game, in the singles, Doug Heanssler won 8-4, Andy Turner won 8-0, and Sumner forfeited the third singles. In the doubles, Nick Dunham/Paul Zoephal won 8-1 and Cody Eaton/Justin Eaton won 8-5.

In the second game, in the singles, Doug Heanssler won 8-6, Andy Turner won 8-1, and we won the third singles by forfeit. In the doubles, Nick Dunham/Paul Zoephal won 8-6 and Cody Eaton/Justin Eaton won 9-7.

The boys beat Calais 3-2 and 4-1. In the first game, in the singles, Doug Heanssler lost 8-6, Andy Turner won 8-0, and Matt Duddy won 8-2. In the doubles, we and Calais each forfeited one of the matches.

In the second game, Doug Heanssler lost 8-2, Andy Turner won 8-1, and Matt Duddy won 7-4. Calais forfeited each of the doubles matches.

The girls end the season with a 5-7 record and are in 9th place. With a few more games to be made up by other teams, we will be in the playoffs but on the road.

The boys end up with a 6-6 record and are in 8th place, but as mentioned above, the final standings are not yet determined.
