Island high school announces honor parts

The honor parts for Deer Isle-Stonington High School’s Class of 2018 have been announced. Graduation is set for Sunday, June 10, at 1 p.m. in the school gym.

Orly Marie Vaughn - Valedictorian

Orly is the daughter of Amy and Andrew Vaughn of Little Deer Isle. Her future plans include attending Davidson College in Davidson, N.C., where she will major in Sociology.

During high school, Orly participated in varsity basketball for four years and was team captain her senior year. She also participated in varsity soccer for four years and varsity tennis for three years.

She was a member of the National Honor Society for three years, the peer support team for three years and the chess team for four years. Orly received a Maine Principals Award.

Ennis Wedgwood Marshall - Salutatorian

Son of Cathy and Geoffrey Marshall of Little Deer Isle, Ennis plans to attend the University of Maine in Orono, where he will study Civil Engineering.

During high school, he participated in varsity tennis for three years and was a member of the Math Team for one year. He was Class Treasurer each of his four years in school.

He was on the National Honor Society three years, serving as President his senior year. He also participated on the drama team and Odyssey of the Mind, and was a member of the band and pep band each of his four years in high school.

Brendan William Penfold – First Honor Essayist

Son of Mary and Richard Penfold of Deer Isle, Brendan plans to major in Engineering at Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pa.

His high school activities included participation on the cross country team, serving as team captain and finishing as runner-up in the Cross Country Class C State Championship meet.

He also participated in outdoor track, band, the chess team and math team. He was Student Council Representative to the School Board, a member of the National Honor Society and a National Merit Scholar.

Madison Paige Eaton – Second Honor Essayist

Madison is the daughter of Patricia Eaton of Stonington. Her future plans include studying Nursing at the University of Maine in Orono.

During high school, she was a Student Mentor, a member of the Student Council and a varsity tennis player. She was elected Class President her senior year.
