Izaak Bolduc, a 25-year-old physical education and health teacher at the Deer Isle-Stonington schools was arrested by the Maine State Police on May 24 and charged with three counts of unlawful sexual contact involving a high school student, according to a May 25 memo sent out by Union 76 Superintendent Chris Elkington. This information was confirmed by officials at the Hancock County Jail.
The charges are Class C offenses, and carry a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment.
As of Friday, May 25, Bolduc, who also coaches the boys basketball team at the high school, is being held at the Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth. His bail has been set at $3,000.
In a memo to parents, Elkington said that Bolduc has not been in school since May 3, and “will not be returning.”
“Based on the information received by the district, the allegation is limited to this one teacher and one student,” according to Elkington.
“We are cooperating with the state police in any way we can,” continued Elkington. “We take seriously any allegation that a member of the educational community would engage in any inappropriate behavior with a student.”
Bolduc’s next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on June 13.
