CSD board member steps down
by Tevlin Schuetz
The CSD Board is minus one member again.
Deer Isle resident Elizabeth Smith tendered her resignation in a letter to board chairman Jane Osborne, who shared the news at Tuesday’s regular meeting.
Citing personal reasons, Smith asked that her resignation be accepted effective immediately.
“While I admire everyone on the board and the great work that is done, the demands of career and family do not allow me to put forth the time and effort to be a productive member of the board,” Smith wrote.
Smith—who was a write-in candidate elected at Deer Isle town meeting in March—acknowledged and apologized for the hardship and inconvenience her departure would cause the board, and she stated that she hopes to rejoin the board at some point in the future.
The CSD Board experienced membership turnover earlier in the year, welcoming Tracie Morey in September, whom Stonington Selectmen appointed to fill the vacancy created when Stephen York left in June.
Deer Isle Selectmen must likewise choose a replacement for Smith, and the appointee would be required to occupy the position until town meeting next March, when four board seats will be up for election, Osborne noted.
Any Deer Isle resident interested in filling the vacancy should call the town office at 348-2324.
