DISES hosts, sweeps cheering invitational
by Anne Berleant
The Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary School Annual Cheering Invitational drew teams from seven Hancock County towns to show their tumbling, jump and stunting skills on Sunday, February 24.
The DISES and Island Cheer and Tumbling teams performed well, winning their divisions for mixed third-eighth grade and kindergarten through fifth.
“It was a clean sweep for our island cheering teams,” organizer and coach Amber Jones said. “And our event overall was a huge success.”
Over 600 people came to cheer on the cheerleaders, who totaled over 100 across three different divisions. The event also allows the cheering teams a final competition before the state junior high/elementary cheering championships on March 3 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. The competition begins at 10 a.m.
