Future of Our Schools report released
The CSD 13 School Board accepted the final report from the Future of Our Schools Committee at a special meeting on Wednesday, December 12, according to a news release from the school. The report can be seen in its entirety at SU76.org, DISHS.org, and DISES.org. Paper copies of the Summary Report, which is a condensed version of the complete report, are available at the Deer Isle and Stonington town offices and libraries as well as the superintendent’s office and the high school and elementary schools’ front offices. Paper copies of the full report are available at the superintendent’s office, which is located behind the high school.
The community advisory vote to determine whether the high school remains on the island or is closed and students get tuitioned off-island will take place on January 29. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in both towns. Absentee ballots will be available at both town offices beginning Friday, December 29. Given the uncertainty of January weather, and the importance of this community-wide vote, the committee strongly recommends voters consider returning their absentee ballots early.
Prior to that vote, three public meetings will be held to discuss this report and answer questions. The dates and times of these meetings are:
Monday, January 14, at 6 p.m.
Wednesday, January 16, at 6 p.m.
Saturday, January 26, at 9 a.m.
All meetings will be at the high school.
