Lobster lesson

Daisy Girl Scouts from Troop 1017 recently visited the Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries to earn the Girl Scouts of Maine Lobster Patch. With the help of the Center’s Christina Fifield, the girls learned about lobsters’ life cycle, colors, parts, how they are caught and parts of the lobster trap. The girls also learned how to tell females from males and how the industry is sustained by notching the tails of female breeders. The girls enjoyed seeing lobsters of different colors in the Center’s touch tank. The blue lobster was caught and donated to the Center by Ben Hardy, the father of Daisy Aislynn Hardy.
