Nomination papers available for island towns
by Faith DeAmbrose
Island residents now have the opportunity to take out nomination papers for municipal and school board seats in Deer Isle and Stonington. Papers for all expiring seats were released November 27 and are due back in January.
Papers are available for one three-year seat on the board of selectmen, currently held by Peter Perez.
Also available, is a one-year term as tax collector, currently held by Judy Dunham, and a one-year term as town clerk currently held by Heather Dunham.
The earlier release of papers for a one-year term as road commissioner were rescinded after voters decided at a special town meeting last week to make the position appointed rather than elected.
Papers are due back by the close of business on Tuesday, January 7.
There are two three-year seats on the board of selectmen, currently held by John Steed and John Robbins.
In Stonington, papers are due back by 4 p.m. Monday, January 13. Elections will be held on Friday, March 13, and the annual town meeting will be held on Saturday, March 14.
